Benefits of Baby Massage

Baby Massage is wonderful for babies. Not only is it fun but it also a very beneficial aid to good sleep, relieving the pain of trapped wind, colic and constipation and an aid to relaxation. It is also beneficial for parents or grandparents to help them to emotionally bond with their baby.

We all use the power of touch to soothe. Mothers naturally commence this immediately after birth by gentle stroking of their babies skin.

Baby Massage is great for parents as it helps to strengthen the emotional bond with their new baby and it increases confidence when handling baby. It also increases positive interaction between parent and baby. This is great for everyone but especially so, if there is some degree of postnatal depression present.

Baby Massage is Fun!

Baby Massage helps to relax baby and is ideal to use as part of an early settling routine for sleep. Therefore it provides a good foundation for establishing a bedtime routine.

Libby Bowyer has studied Developmental Baby Massage with Peter Walker at the International School of Developmental Baby Massage & Movement in London and is qualified to teach parents how to massage their babies. She provides developmental baby massage teaching for parents in Sussex, Hampshire and Surrey in the comfort of their own home. Libby is happy to teach small group classes of up to 3 babies and mothers therefore it may be fun to invite friends with babies to take part.

This informative five week course can be introduced from 6-8 weeks, following the Newborn Examination check by your GP.

Baby Massage

30.00         1 hour

What to expect from a class:

  • Introduction – what you need to begin.
  • Massage techniques will be demonstrated on a massage doll.
  • You will be massaging your own child.
  • A routine will be shown and built upon weekly.
  • Tuition will be guided by the mood of the individual/small group (max 3 babies).
  • Each session lasts approximately 45 minutes.

As babies who are asleep can’t be massaged, should this happen during the session, the demonstration will continue to teach you how to massage your baby and then you will be encouraged to practice the techniques on your baby later when convenient to both you and your baby, in readiness for the next session.

Duration: 1 hour sessions in the privacy of your own home
Max group: 3 babies

Recommended  course of 5 sessions for babies from 8 weeks of age – book all 5 in advance and get them for the price of 4 sessions – £120.00
